Meeting Minutes: 03 October, 2005


1. Introduced officers

  VPs:  Blair Schoene and Ben Crosby

2. Activities coming up:
        A. EAPS slide show
                -Andrew Barton and Andrew ? (1st years from 15th floor,
                sorry didn't get the 2nd last name!) will organize
                -slide show of places you went during the summer, field
                site, cool atmospheres/ocean/planetary pictures
                -during peer hour (date?)
                -slide show last year was heavy on geo stuff....need PAOC
                pictures!!
        B. Calendar
                -photos from slide show
                -problem from last year: made it too late (mid dec.),
                couldn't sell 100 in 15 days (everyone left)
                -$10 ea. last year from kinko's (find somewhere cheaper?)
                -Julie Kane organize (will make, find someone to help
                sell)
        C. Super volcano night (Blair wants to show a movie)
                -after peer hour, provide food
                -want to open to undergrads...but must not advertise it
                with peer hour
        D. Chili cookoff
                -fall event
                -ask Isaac Hilburn to organize?
        E. Outing to Bruins game, about a month from now
3.  Activities farther out:
        A. ski trip
                -this year, organize with MIT Snowriders (day trip)
        B. AGU peer hour
                -success last year, want to have again
                -other groups who don't go to AGU may organize their own
        C. Long Pond - success!
                -Isaac Hilburn and Andrew volunteer to organize next year
4.  Maria Zuber wants to nominate Vicki McKenna for MIT excellence award,
        -needs 4 students each to write letter of support
        -Maureen volunteered
        -due 20th Oct. to Roberta Allard
5. Need to do another G&G general exam open forum - positive event last
year
        -Kate Ruhl will do it, wants a younger student to learn how too
        -work in parallel with other department programs...if interested
6.  EGSAC T-shirts
        -Moreen doesn't have time, needs to hand it off if we want them
        anytime soon
        -already have design
        -Martha Buckley volunteered
