Meeting Minutes: 05 April, 2004

EGSAC met this afternoon; here's a summary of what we discussed.

1. Geology students received an e-mail stating that the Crossby lectures
would be cut as some other subgroups in the department don't have their
own lecture series. This struck us as bizarre; we'll investigate what
instigated the message and voice support to keep this valued series
running.

2. Upcoming events: we have a number of ideas for later this spring and
summer. Among them are a trip to the Lowell Spinners (a single-A minor
league team of the Red Sox); this will likely be some time this summer.
We plan a trip to Six Flags amusement park one day this summer. Also, the
spring picnic should be held in early June. We are also thinking about a
candle pin bowling night, perhaps following an upcoming peer hour. More
details on each of these events will be sent in separate e-mails as the
dates approach.

3. To those who volunteered to serve on the orientation committee:
we'll check with Vicki for an update about planning, as we have not heard
any more since we submitted the names.

4. The Lindgren Library Committee will meet in about two weeks. If there
are any concerns you wish to have addressed, please forward them to
Michael Person at mjperson@mit.edu.

5. Maureen informs us that a mailing list for information and discussion
of the Red Sox exists for our department. If you wish to join, subscribe
to eapsox (one "s").

6. We'll meet again the first Monday of May. Officers for the next
academic year will be elected. If you do not wish to be elected
(volunteered) in absentia, please come! :)

Sincerely,
Rob Korty
EGSAC Secretary
